JJDC also selects and invests in internal ventures in Johnson & Johnson that are focused on developing transformational technologies and products. JJDC has invested in more than 300 companies in biotechnology, genetics and other health care areas. The Company's commitment to biotechnology also includes support of basic academic research. Since 1980, the Johnson & Johnson Corporate Office of Science & Technology (COSAT) has awarded more than 275 basic research grants through the Johnson & Johnson Focused Giving Program to leading investigators in a variety of biomedical research areas. Many of these grants have grown into sustained collaborations. This group also provides seed grants and special project support for early research in areas of potential interest for Johnson & Johnson, and participates with JJDC in the establishment and management of Internal Ventures.
