Ortho-McNeil Pharmaceutical, Inc. is a pioneer and leader in the United States in the areas of women's health, central nervous system, pain treatment, urology and anti-infectives. The company markets the anti-epilepsy medication, TOPAMAX ® (topiramate), and ORTHO TRI-CYCLEN ® (norgestimate/ethinyl estradiol), the first oral contraceptive to gain FDA approval for a non-contraceptive indication (acne).
Other recently launched products include ORTHO EVRA ® (norelgestromin/ethinyl estradiol transdermal system), the first FDA approved contraceptive patch, and ORTHO TRI-CYCLEN ® LO (norelgestromin/ethinyl estradiol), an oral contraceptive. The company also markets a fluoroquinolone anti-infective, LEVAQUIN ® (levofloxacin), which was in-licensed from Daiichi Pharmaceutical Corporation, and DITROPAN XL ® (oxybutynin chloride). DITROPAN XL uses ALZA technology in treating overactive bladder, a condition that affects approximately 20 million Americans, mainly women.
